Frequently asked questions
Our brand, our products, delivery and payment: answers to the questions we are asked most often.
Ilanga Nature and our products
Who is Ilanga Nature?
Ilanga Nature is a Belgian family brand based in Mariembourg, founded in 2018 by Olivier Laurent and now run by his children Laura, Nathan and Naya. We produce and import directly raw honeys, Bourbon vanilla, spices, jams and salts from Madagascar, as well as organic olive oil from Sardinia.
Where do your honeys come from?
Our honeys come from Madagascar. They are harvested by the 400 beekeepers we work with in the Highlands, Manakara, Fort-Dauphin and Toliara. Our mobile honey houses, equipped 4x4 trucks, extract the honey directly at the apiaries.
Are your products organic?
Part of our range is certified organic: honeys, spices and olive oils. The word “Organic” (“Bio”) appears in the product name. The certificates can be downloaded on our page Certifications.
Have your honeys won awards?
Yes. Our honeys won a gold and a silver medal at the London International Honey Awards 2020, first place in their category at the Black Jar Honey Tasting Contest 2019, and a silver medal at the Bee Attitude “Miels d’ici et d’ailleurs” competition 2019. Our vanilla was showcased at the Horecatel 2024 trade fair.
What is the difference between lychee honey and niaouli honey?
Lychee honey is mild, with fruity and floral notes: ideal for discovering Madagascar honeys. Niaouli honey is stronger, with caramel aromas.
What is Bourbon vanilla from Madagascar?
It is Vanilla planifolia grown in Madagascar, Réunion and the Comoros. Our pods come from the SAVA region in north-eastern Madagascar: they are hand-pollinated, then scalded, sweated and dried using the Bourbon method. We offer it as pods, powder, paste, pearls and extract.
What is voatsiperifery pepper?
Voatsiperifery is a wild pepper endemic to Madagascar, picked from forest vines. It has woody, fresh and slightly citrusy notes, and a small characteristic tail.
Where can I buy Ilanga Nature products?

How long does delivery take?
Allow 5 working days in Belgium and 7 working days for other countries. We ship with Bpost (Belgian Post) and UPS. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
Is delivery free?
Yes, delivery is free from €60 for most destinations. The exact shipping cost for your country is shown in the cart, before payment.

Can I return a product?
You have 15 days after receipt to report a problem. All conditions are detailed on our page Deliveries and returns policy.
How should I store vanilla?
Keep the pods in their tube or pouch, away from light, air and heat. Do not put them in the fridge: they would dry out. After use, a rinsed and dried pod can flavour a jar of sugar.
My honey has crystallised, is that normal?
Yes. Crystallisation is a natural process of raw honey that affects neither its taste nor its quality. To make it liquid again, place the jar in a warm water bath (below 40 °C) and stir gently.
Do you sell to professionals?
Yes. Restaurants, hotels, pastry chefs and delicatessens enjoy suitable formats and prices in our Pro Area.
